Sex is, overall, a very healthy activity. It produces love hormones, gives you that nice sex glow, and makes you feel awesome. It also validates your attractiveness on a subconscious level. There's a reason why sex makes you feel good.

And, multiple studies have been done showing how it can make you look younger. The most famous study, published by Dr. David Weeks, showed that regular sex makes both men and women look 5 to 7 years younger than they really are. The study finished in 2013, and was conducted over the course of 10 years.

Weeks had asked people between the ages of 40 to 50 about their sex lives. Basically, he quizzed them on frequency, and then he took pictures of the people who responded to the quizzing. And, he also asked them about how much they enjoyed the sex they have.

What he had found is that the people who had regular sex and enjoyed it tended to look way younger. People who had sex 50 percent more frequently and enjoyed it looked on average 5 to 7 years younger than people who only had sex once or twice per week. They also found that the quality of sex mattered. In order to get the full benefits, you do have to enjoy the sex.

Here’s what else he found through his research. Weeks also noted that a previous heart disease study showed that people who had highly orgasmic sex were half as likely to die from a heart attack as those who just had “blah” sex. In other words, good sex helps in the prevention of heart disease.

Here’s the main reason why sex is so awesome for your youth. Sex encourages the production of human growth hormone, or HGH. Human growth hormone is a crucial compound when it comes to retaining skin elasticity and improving overall skin tone. The way sex gets your blood pumping also gives you a temporary “glow.”

And sex also improves your overall life quality, which in turn can reduce stress - which in turn, reduces aging. A great sex life ranked as highly as a strong religious foundation and a good role in the community when it comes to life quality. In 1999, Dr. Weeks found that regular sex came in only second to physical and mental activity as a factor of retaining youth.

But, there’s another major catch to the stress relief issue, too. It’s only committed sex that seems to really boost youthful looks in people. Casual sex often brings out a lot of detrimental things like an absence of security, anxiety, and overall drama. Believe it or not, anxiety can cause wrinkles and aging.

Dr. Weeks also found out that there are extra ways to boost the reverse-aging benefits of a good sex life, too. He noted that people who ate healthy food in reasonable portions tended to get better youth perks than those who didn’t. On a similar note, people who exercised frequently also tended to benefit from sex more often.

Dr. Weeks’s studies are not the only ones. There have been a multitude of studies on the benefits of sex over the years. Some of them are still being done today, and almost all of them agree that having sex is better than having no sex at all.

Dr. Amy Wechsler showed that regular sex can give you a real glow, too. And, it’s not just because your blood is pumping, either. With women, having sex can boost your estrogen levels, which in turn prevents skin dryness. This hormone boost also tends to improve your overall complexion, even days after you’ve done the deed.

AcnEase did a study on sex and acne. And, surprise, sex is a major hormone balancer. Since a lot of acne is caused by hormone imbalances, it shouldn’t be too shocking that people who get laid frequently tend to have clearer skin. It also increases immunoglobin, an antibody that prevents inflammation, and decreases our need for sweet foods.

Another study published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine says that sex also boosts testosterone in men. As most people know, testosterone is crucial to a man’s ability to function healthily. It boosts guys’s moods, improves their muscle tone, and also can help them live longer, healthier lives.

Even having a significant other reduces anxiety levels. So, if you have love, congratulations. You are already on a better road to a more youthful self than a person who is single. And, if you’re having frequent sex, that’s all the better.

The bottom line is that sex is good for you. And it’s good for you for a variety of reasons, most of which will make you look better and sexier in the long run. So go ahead and have fun. You’ll be healthier for it.
