Wine. Wine is already a sexy drink in and of itself, but did you know that it could also make you more attractive too? As long as you’re drinking a pinot noir, anyway. According to new research, a glass of pinot noir has almost the same effects that pheromones have.
Smells. It all has to do with the way pinot noir smells. According to researchers, pinot noir gives off a very similar smell to the male sex pheromone, androsterone. It’s combination of spice, musk, and other earthy notes make the person drinking it nearly irresistible.
Hormones. In nature, pheromones are given off to attract a mate. And according to Elite Daily, the grapes that are used to make pinot noir result in the wine smelling very similar to androsterone. So there you have it, if you want to seem more attractive to that guy you’ve been staring at on the other end of the bar all night, order yourself up a glass of red wine.
Other research. Although pinot noir is the only wine that releases hormone-like smells, other studies have found that alcohol in general makes you more attractive. According to the Daily Mail UK, researchers at the University of Bristol discovered that after just one glass of wine, your face starts to glow and you become much more confident.
Tipsy. The findings were based off of the answers that 40 men and women gave the researchers when they were asked to rate the attraction levels of people who were sober, tipsy, and drunk. Those who were considered “tipsy” or having had drank one third of a bottle of wine were considered the most attractive of the groups.
Results. Unsurprisingly, the sober people were rated as the least attractive, next to the drunk group of people. This study just proves that “beer goggles” truly are a real thing, but this study also proves that the same effects work the other way around, when the person is sober.
Attractive. However, it’s important to note that those considered the most attractive were the people who were only slightly drunk, and not on the floor wasted. Another thing to note was that flushed faces were also a big factor into why people were seen as more attractive, and those who were tipsy had the most red cheeks of all.
Interest. ”In addition to perceiving others as more attractive, an alcohol consumer may also be perceived by others as more attractive, and therefore receive greater sexual interest from potential mates. An increase in such attention from others may also positively reinforce alcohol consumption, particularly in social contexts,” said the researchers, as reported by the Daily Mail UK.
Self-control. Because alcohol puts people in such a relaxed and good mood, it also makes them easier to talk to. But if you’re willing to try out this experiment, make sure you can control yourself from getting too drunk. Those who drank too much were seen making “facial expressions which were excessive and unattractive.”
Conclusion. ”In conclusion, our data indicates that alcohol consumption may lead to consumers being rated as more attractive than sober individuals, but only following low levels of consumption. At higher levels of consumption this effect is not observed, and may even be reversed,” said the researchers, as reported by the Daily Mail UK.
In good health. Having a rosy glow is considered attractive because it makes people seem like they are in “good physical health.” Alcohol causes that glow as blood rushes to your face, making you more flushed.
Fine line. ”You consume a drink, so you see other people as more attractive, but you also become more attractive yourself because you've consumed a drink. But if they go on to consume more alcohol, they're no longer rated as more attractive,” said Professor Marcus Munafo, as reported by the Daily Mail UK.
Other studies. Another study also done at the same university proved that beer goggles were a real thing, and not something someone made up. Participants were asked to drink alcohol while looking at photos of people’s faces. Those who drank found the images much more attractive than those who didn’t.
Results. Participants were surprised at the results, saying the more they drank, the better their chances of picking up a date were. “I can't really see that happened as after a couple you always want more, but if it improves my chances of pulling I'll give it a shot,” said a participant, as reported by the Daily Mail UK.
