How did you get started?I actually started off pretty well, a local designer had approached me after seeing my style and iconic teal hair asking me to shoot for her catalogue. That was my first shoot ever and since it was such a professional and fun experience and setting I continued planning and shooting on my own afterwards! I started off booking 3-4 shoots a week and making a point in meeting and networking with individuals even at parties or outside of the country.Do you love any one genre of modelling more than another?Hmmm it's hard to decide a specific genre that I prefer over the other because I try to make everything shoot unique with my concepts and vision, but if I had to choose I really enjoy shooting Lolita fashion or fantasy because it's that perfect mix of cute and dark! What was your first shoot as a model like?My first shoot was interesting since I had no previous modelling experience it was mostly trial and error, but it was extremely fun and supportive and the photographer made sure to give me pointers to help my posture or facial expressions. I think it's important to have a positive outlook on shoots and be open to learn because you gain experience after every shoot.Tell us a bit about your style? My style is all over the place haha, some days I'll be wearing basic blacks other days I'll wear vintage dresses with combat boots and ripped tights. I always try to juxtapose the beautiful and delicate with rugged and edgy. How would you describe your music? My music is heavily influenced by childhood memories and nostalgia from my own life. My lyrics are poetical, deep and reflective. I try to create a unique experience with my songs to transport the listener to a realm of endless imagination and meditative state of mind. Fall down the rabbit hole and give it a listen!Did your music career or your modelling career come first? Could you choose one above the other?I've always been interested in music but that ambition was paused when I got into modelling when I was 17-18, since I was booking shoots every other day it was hard to find time to work on my music. I was first fronting a metal band but quickly found that my passion and interest were in experimental and electronic music. Right now I am focusing on my music so I guess you could say I've chosen that to invest in right now over the other (modelling). But I will still do the odd shoot here and there because designers and brands continue to approach me for collabs. As a makeup artist, what is one cosmetic product you could never live without?Oh my gosh ... One cosmetic product for a makeup artist is like asking to play desert island. I can't live without my liquid eyeliner since my wing cat eye is my iconic look, I use bulletproof eyeshadow from Sugarpill and smudge that with a damp eyeliner brush or for a precise line I use this brand called Essence or Make Up Forever, both of those are fantastic too![caption id="attachment_94337" align="aligncenter" width="700"]

I've met incredible designers that I've admired from afar when I was young but had the chance to work with them because of my portfolio. What do you consider your biggest career highlight to date?My biggest achievement is being sponsored by hair dye brand manic panic and visiting their hq to meet the creators! That was truly an unforgettable experience since those ladies have been around for years and years! Any sponsorship is an amazing achievement for me because when a brand believes in you it really gives you confidence in continuing your craft. How much have you changed since you first started modelling?I've changed every year, evolving into more styles and versatility with my image. The more experience you have the more picky you get with opportunities however, so although I've done my fair share of trade shoots I'm now very selective with whom I work with. They have to benefit my book or else it's not really beneficial to me.Do you have any tips for new models that find you inspiring?I would say the best tip is to find an iconic look, something that makes you unique and stand out from the pack. When I first dyed my hair no one in Toronto really had this hair colour, which made me a hot item in the modelling scene, I also am curvier than the regular sized model so people like shooting me in pin up for that reason as well, I'd say pick a style and market that suits your look and that will benefit you in the long run, so that when people think of who they should hire you'll automatically pop into their head. What’s next for Cassia Sparkle?I'm finishing my album right now entitled "wormwood" so that's what I've been investing most of energy on at the moment. I'm also working on a beauty YouTube channel relative to my make up artistry and creating my own blog that will be mermaid related ;) (of course). I have a few shoots I'm planning to release soon as well that I've artistically directed and modelled myself.Find more from Cassia Sparkle on Youtube, Soundcloud, Instagram (@cassiacrawl) and on her website!
