Are orgasms from sex more intense than masturbation? We polled men from all walks of life around the country, and their answers were surprisingly varied. Take a look below.

No difference. Ricky from New York City, NY, tells us that that climaxing always feels exactly the same for him, no matter the method. "There’s no different between orgasming from masturbation and from sex. Other than what happens after the fact — i.e. cuddling and pillow talk.”

More of a body orgasm. "Well, if I’m jackin it by myself, it might not feel as intense when I orgasm,” says Danny, an actor from Los Angeles. "But when I’m with someone, whether we’re f*cking, jerking off, oral, whatever… I definitely feel more of a body orgasm. It tends to last longer.”

Sex = better. “Orgasming from sex is so much better” says Steve, a wedding planner from Provincetown, MA. “I totally unload during my intercourse orgasms whereas during masturbation is more just like firing off a couple rounds.”
Blessing a chick. “Personally, I don’t like wasting my stuff,” says Bruce, 32, a correctional guard at the Sing Sing Correctional Facility in NY. “It’s pretty precious and letting it soak into some sock or paper towel is just wrong. When I orgasm during sex, I feel like I’m blessing a chick with my sacred goo and that makes me c*m like crazy!” We’re not sure if calling it his “sacred goo” is going to win him any points with the ladies…

Do it better myself. “I've always been able to so it better myself,” Charles, 27, from Hoboken, NJ, says. "I don't have sex because the orgasms are better. Most of the time they aren't. I have sex because I enjoy the physical intimacy. I mean, it still feels really good, but if that were all I were after I'd just do it myself.”

A woman’s body. “I get off a lot more with sex, so I usually feel better after sex than post masturbation,” Andy from Sarasota, FL, says. “Sometimes the orgasm is better via masturbation, but there’s nothing like being inside a woman and having her naked body right in front, below, or on top of you.” We hear ya, Andy.
Emotionally different. Peter, an amateur cinematographer from Boston, MA, says that they’re physiologically the same, but emotionally different. “They’re the same physically for me, but the emotional content given to sex with a partner makes it more meaningful and thus, more pleasurable. Not always, of course, but sometimes.”

Sex can be disappointing. “Sex with someone else can be wonderful, but also can very disappointing,” Jon, 34, a freelance writer from NYC, New York, says. “But on your own, you don’t get that disappointment. It’s just you and your pleasure."

Hard to measure. "It's hard to measure pleasure exactly,” Nick, 27, says. “But I'd say a normal climax during sex is maybe two or three times more intense than one during a normal solo session.”
Orgasm, same; feeling, different. Joel from New Orleans tells us that the big finish itself is the same, but the feeling is different. He adds that “in sex, effort is lesser, climate is conducive and orgasm is collaborative.” But that in masturbation, “everything is one-sided, and it’s purely mental effort.”

Sex wins. “Orgasms are more intense during sex, hands down,” Frank, a chef from Austin, TX, tells us. “From the skin to smells, to the visuals, trust involves a lot more sensations, which makes it way more pleasurable.”

Energy. David, a yoga guru from San Diego, CA, looked at the matter from a tantric point of view. “You exchange energy with another human being which adds another layer to your experience — thus, making the orgasm feel much more intense.”
More of a turn-on. Ariel, 23, says that orgasming during sex — when you’re with someone you love — is simply incomparable to orgasming from masturbation. “When you are someone you love,” he says, “it’s way more of a turn-on to know how you can arouse them, and vice versa. It’s not only about your orgasm, but theirs too. And that’s amazing.”

Stigma. One man we asked — who decided to remain anonymous — said that masturbation was too humiliating for him to be good. “I would rather have sex with the ugliest girl around than be caught masturbating alone in front of my computer,” he tells us. “Choking the chicken is cool — when you’re in high school. After that, however, masturbating is just a constant reminder of the fact that you’re not getting laid."
